Model System of COSMO-CLM
The Model System of COSMO-CLM (COSMO model in CLimate Mode) consists of four main parts (overview.pdf (You have no right to download this file.)):
- Initial and Boundary Conditions
- Converter of driving model data to int2lm input conform netCDF format
- Processor for External Paramters (PEP) for interpolation of the external parameters onto the grid of the regional model
- The external parameters are derived from various sources. Most of them are available globally (UBA: Soil and CC.pdf)
- The PEP program selects the data desired from DWD or ECOCLIMAP data sources and interpolates them onto the COSMO-CLM grid.
- pre processor int2lm for preparation of the initial and boundary conditions using the PEP results and by interpolation of the driving data,
- COSMO-CLM itself for operational numerical weather prediction and regional climate simulations (Dynamics and Numerics I, Dynamics and Numerics II, Physical Parmeterisations I, II and III
- IMDI, the Compile and Running environment (IMDI for COSMO-CLM)
- Postprocessing (Evaluation tool): A standard tool for calculation of climate statistics is still being developed.
- For NetCDF the standard statistic tools NCOs and CDOs are free available to calculate different statistics in an efficient and user friendly manner. A short description can be found in (cosmo_clm_tutorial_additional_materials.pdf, the additional training-materials for regional climate applications). Most of the visualisation tools are able to read NetCDF files.
- The most time consuming part of the calculation of the climatologies is the calculation of statistical quantities (e.g. monthly statistics) from the original model output. Different tools based on the NCOs and CDOs are used by different groups within the CLM-Community. It is planned to provide a standard tool developed at BTU Cottbus for calculation of monthly statistics together with IMDI in the next future.
